The Dumbing of America

The Dumbing of America

I like wrasslin'.

I like Moon Pies.

I own a pickup truck.

Mindless entertainment is just fine with me. One of the greatest enjoyments for me is to go to the movies and lose myself for a couple of hours in some movie involving lots of explosions, some gratuitous nudity, and an easy to follow plot line.

It's even better if the movie involves zombies or some form of monsters.

And I'm from Texas.

But I find it incredibly difficult to believe a lot of what I see and read nowadays.

Like Bush's poll numbers.

I get the fact that they are tied at 28% with the 1979 version of Jimmy Carter for the lowest of any President. That's what I would expect after the lies we have been fed, the way the political system has morphed in the last ten years, and the state of our country.

I just find it hard to believe that 28% of Americans can still have a favorable job approval rating for Bush. That means when I am walking through the grocery store, nearly three out of every ten people I pass gives him a big thumbs up. Well... actually...probably more than that where I live.

But America has been dumbed down to the point where many can forgive him as long as he hasn't screwed anything up in the last hour or so.

I understood how he beat Gore (yeah, I know, he really didn't the election was stolen, etc, etc, but he still got a hell of a lot of votes). Gore was not the greatest campaigner, was dry as the desert, and was tied to the Clintons.

John Kerry was the most lackluster candidate I've ever seen, making Michael Dukakis look like an action movie star. He repeatedly talked above the heads of the American people, listened to the wrong advisers, was generally BORING, and didn't fight back when he should have letting the Repugs set the "issues" in the campaign.

America has reduced itself to a society where we live and die by the sound bite. Everything must be condensed into a 10 second slogan. We are letting the media and the corporations decide what the important issues are and then spoon feeding them to us.

God forbid we should have to think.

As the bumper sticker said, Vote Republican...Why Think for Yourself?
