Let the Talking Points Begin
Let the Talking Points Begin
Mitt Romney is on CNN pitching for McCain this morning.
Of course, the main point they are making is that McCain is so much more experienced than Obama. I'm not sure that once the votes are examined this will be such a great talking point, particularly since McCain has changed from straight talk to votes which support Bush and his policies most of the time. (Did anyone else find it disingenuous that McCain chose to speak from New Orleans on Tuesday night and yet he chose to vote against Katrina relief?)
Back to the talking points.
Incredibly enough, Romney basically said that the Middle East and the economy are so messed up that Obama can't handle the issues.
Ouch.
This is one of those issues the Repugs are floating to see how it plays and I suspect it's going to fall flat. Arguing that the Republicans broke it and now are the only ones who can fix it just doesn't make much sense.
Of course, the Democrats are notoriously bad at failing to take advantage of opportunities. Let's see if they can slam this one over the fence.
I'm also curious as to how the criticism regarding Obama being willing to talk to Iran is playing with the great unwashed masses. To me, a willingness to talk is an admirable quality yet the Repugs are hammering on this as a bad thing. You can bet it's been polled and focus grouped to death.
By the way, I saw a blurb from FOX saying that Rove is informally advising McCain now. Did anyone doubt it would happen? McCain is about to throw away the last ounce of dignity he has.
AN ADDED NOTE: The Rasmussen daily poll states
"Economic issues have muscled past national security issues as a voter concern with significant implications for Election 2008. Fifty-nine percent (59%) of Americans say that talks with Iran should not take place until that nation stops developing nuclear weapons. "
As I said earlier, you could bet this issue was polled before the Repugs started attacking it. I hope the democratic strategy team can keep their act together. This is an issue that has a response available if they can figure out how to market it.
