I May Puke

I May Puke

If I hear the word Maverick one more time I think I'll barf.

Whatever kind of maverick McCain may have been years ago was neutrered out of him after he lost to W in 2000. Now he just spouts the party line and shuffles along.

This Republican convention has amazed me in a couple of ways. First,  that the mean spiritedness not only continues (ok, I lied, that doesn't surprise me) but that they can do, act and say the things they do and then delude themselves into believing that the Democrats are the ones causing problems is just unbelievable.

What is also amazing is that McCain and Palin are railing about how they want to change Washington. Do they believe (and are they correct) that the American people are stupid enough to forget that the Repugs have been in charge for the disastrous last 8 years?

I must admit that even their voices are getting on my nerves at this point. I kind of thought Palin was hot until I listened to her irritating nasaly voice for a while. Now John McCain kind of has the same tone.

One last rant. I was watching the Repugs crybabying about how Palin was being treated, adn talking about how much experience she had wondering to myself if they forgot, again, that there  are such things as video cameras and taped footage. If you want a real kick watch the Jon Stewart episode from Wednesday night and watch how they say what is best for them even when it directly contradicts their position just a few month ago.

  • I would agree with you if I were to take your arguments framed solely around sound bites. I can not find -- least at the moment -- that McCain and Palin are insincere in their wish to change Washington. I can not fault someone for changing their opinion when the facts change. And I can not fault someone who votes by their convictions. Both Obama and McCain have had a history of changing opinions when the facts warranted it. McCain has been a thorn in the side of republicans a number of times - more so than any republican that I am aware of. That being said, I can not use that as a criteria to vote for him. I do not want to lend added consideration to the person who stuck it to the man the most. It is expected that the Democrats want the Republicans to fail and vice versa. Right now, for me, I want to know how sincere each candidate truly is and the tools he has at his disposal to solve the ever changing needs of the country.

  • That was very well said. I have never bought into the "flip flop" when a person changes their mind about an issue because they have truly changed their mind. McCain used to vote his conscience, and that John McCain might have been a good President. I lost faith in him when he sided with BushCo about torture being ok and how he was willing to turn his back on what he knew was inappropriate behavior by this country in order to get the Republican nomination.

  • Hey could you share the source about McCain changing his position on torture. I did not read it that way. - Thanks

  • As for torture I have found an excellent article about McCain and the Torture "flip flop" -- it really does not appear a flip flop at all -- but more of the administration not allowing McCain to be effective. I would be interested to see if McCain gains the White House how quickly torture would be outlawed. http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1729891,00.html

  • I actually wrote about it on another blog with the actual quotes. The file has been archived and corrupted but I am trying to get it fixed. If I remember it correctly he still said torture was wrong, but he changed his view of what was considered "torture" to conform to what W and company said.
